Sustainability is woven into WPC’s QC process. The team takes steps daily to avoid waste — both environmental and financial.
If there’s leftover concrete from a pour, it goes into small forms like 30s or 20s, never the ground. “Once concrete hits the floor, it’s unusable,” Joe notes. “So we always have backup forms ready.”
QC also recycles foam, tracks rebar inventory to avoid costly emergency buys, and reuses paper in the office. “It adds up,” Joe says. “And we’re proud of that.”
Training: the quiet innovation
While high-tech solutions are revolutionizing the precast QC world, Joe believes the most effective innovations are human.
“We’ve started training our production team on quality control,” he says. “When they understand why we check temps or vibrate a certain way, the product improves automatically. It’s fewer mistakes and better teamwork.”
That kind of forward-thinking collaboration is what Joe sees as WPC’s real edge. “We’re not just QC, safety, or production — we’re all in it together.”
Pride in the process
For Joe, quality and safety go hand in hand. His advice to new team members?
“Wear your gear. Stay aware. And most importantly — don’t rush. Accidents and mistakes happen when people hurry.”
He’s also big on teamwork. “Around here, if someone forgets their eye protection, another guy’s going to speak up. It’s a culture of looking out for each other.”
Asked what’s made the biggest impact on his work, Joe doesn’t hesitate. “You have to love what you do. If you don’t take pride in your work, it shows in the concrete. But if you do — it shows in everything.”
