Quality in the heat of the desert

How Joe Marin and the QC team keep precast concrete strong, sustainable, and safe

In the scorching summer heat of El Paso, concrete doesn’t just dry — it fights back. It cracks, it sets too fast, and it resists the kind of control that the precast industry demands. But at Western Precast Concrete, Joe Marin, the Quality Control Director, makes sure none of that gets in the way of a durable, reliable product.

“I’ve been doing quality control for over twelve years. And here, you’ve got to stay one step ahead of the heat, the materials, and the specs — because they all matter.” ~ Joe

As head of QC, Joe has a hand in every step of the process. He oversees testing, inspects every structure before and after production, tracks concrete mix designs, orders materials, ensures DOT compliance for both Texas and New Mexico, and signs off on every product that leaves the yard.

“It’s a lot of moving parts,” he laughs, “but when everything’s flowing, it’s a good day.”
