One of our greatest assets and tools that are available in our industry is the ability to redesign a cast in place design on a project plan and provide a precast option. There are cases
where a client may be facing a difficult scenario due to complexity of a structure, or the site conditions and location of the project. Access for ready mix concrete trucks may not
always be available, along with the difficulties of forming and placing concrete under the varying controls and controls of Q.C. in the field.
In this edition of the newsletter, we will be focusing on a Thrust Block Structure, provided to Jordan Foster Construction, on the Riverside International Industrial Center project, owned by EPWU. The detail on the plans called out a cast in place structure, with a footprint of 19’-0” x 14”-0” and a total height of 19’-0”, weighing a combined total of approximately 145,975 lbs.
We provided a full solution package: precast option, with detailed design drawings, engineered lifting placements, and a lifting plan for use by the third-party crane company recruited for the installation on site.
Our version was provided in a three-piece assembly; to aid with the handling and setting process. The sections were provided with jointed connections that allowed the assembly
to be manufactured under our tight Q.C. controls, then shipped to site once the contractor had prepared the site and final installation location. The sections were cast well in advance and were shipped to site within a few hours. The installation was completed quickly and saved an immense amount of installation time that would have been traded out for an elongated process of casting in place.
